The UK government department responsible for: international trade policy; the promotion of exports; consumer and competition policy; policy on scientific research and technical innovation; company legislation and the Companies Registration Office (see Companies House); weights and measures legislation; patents and the Patent Office; the insolvency service; and national policy regarding all forms of energy.
